For sale in this listing is a one owner Martin D35S Dreadnought, serial # 2710**, bought new in 1970. It is one of 175 of the more rare "S" 12th Fret models made that year. Designed for finger picking and similar type playing. It is a classic powerhouse with an amazing sound.
We are selling this vintage guitar for a close friend. We had listed it a month ago on Ebay and it sold, however, the transaction has been canceled which makes the instrument available for someone else.
This Martin guitar has Indian rosewood back and sides, 3-piece back with marquetry between sections, ebony bridge, bound ebony fingerboard, dot inlays, volute on neck, and black, acetate–base plastic pickguard. This is the same, versatile instrument that artists as diverse as Gene Autry, Don Mclean, Johnny Cash, Paul Simon and Judy Collin have all loved and used. The marquetry and inlay are all in wonderful shape.
There are no known issues with this guitar. The owner has decided, as he has gotten older, that a smaller necked guitar is more comfortable for him to play. He has settled for a newer Taylor that plays easier for him (small hands), but doesn't sound as nice.
Guitar was serviced by a Martin representative in 2009. A new bridge was installed, the neck was reset, pick guard was re-glued, and the frets were cleaned. Representative stated that it was the nicest sounding D35S he had seen in a long time.
Guitar sounds great, rich and loud, and has aged gracefully. It is not in pristine "unused" condition though. Remember that it is a 40 year old musical instrument. Although it was lovingly cared for it does have some surface nicks and small flaws, which we have tried to show in the accompanying photographs. Finish overall is in very nice shape. Guitar was used in weekly services, although not in a few years.
